Eagles rookie Jalen Carter nearly pulled off a jaw-dropping play just before halftime of Week 11’s Monday night game against the Chiefs, as he cleverly hit the deck and extended his arms in an effort to intercept the spike from Patrick Mahomes.
With Kansas City holding a 14–7 lead, a four-yard pass from Mahomes to Jerick McKinnon put the Chiefs in field goal range. As they rushed up to spike the ball and stall the clock, Carter attempted to catch them off guard by sprawling out to try and pick off the spike.
While he was unsuccessful in his effort, he actually came pretty close to pulling it off, which would’ve been one of the strangest and most electric defensive highlights of the year.
Mahomes was able to clock the ball with three seconds left in the second quarter, despite the bizarre move from Carter, and set up a 43-yard field goal attempt for Harrison Butker. He converted to make it a 17–7 game at halftime.
It was an unusual play from Philadelphia’s rookie defensive tackle, but fans on social media certainly seemed to appreciate his efforts.
