ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Seth Wickersham reported on Friday morning that Tom Brady is deep in discussions with Raiders owner Mark Davis for a minority stake in the team.

Brady already made his post-football plans known prior to the start of last football season, when he inked a 10-year deal with Fox to become the network’s lead color analyst.

So how would Brady’s potential ownership stake in the Raiders impact his television contract? Per Wickersham, it wouldn’t.

Fox has reportedly “blessed” the arrangement, Wickersham reports. In addition, the league’s policy about team ownership coinciding with media employment only comes into play if the owner holds a position of authority at a media company. The concern here would be that an owner’s position of influence in a media company could impact broadcast rights negotiations.

Brady does not hold a position of authority at Fox, so the NFL’s policy will not come into play, and he will be able to both call games for the network while also holding a minority ownership interest in the Raiders, if he and Davis reach an agreement.
