Report: Ryan Reynolds’s Bid for Ownership of NHL Team Reaches Conclusion

Fresh off a successful first season as co-owner of the Welsh soccer club, Wrexham A.F.C., actor Ryan Reynolds’s bid for the NHL’s Senators will reportedly not be moving forward, according to ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.

Reynolds was part of a group led by real estate developer Remington Group. The 46-year-old reportedly requested an exclusive window to negotiate a potential purchase and was denied, which caused Reynolds to bow out of the process. The deadline for formal offers to be submitted is May 15. The Remington Group’s bid was believed to be over $1 billion, per Kaplan.

Reynolds was not the only celebrity eyeing a bid to own the Senators, as rapper Snoop Dogg is part of a group led by Neko Sparks looking to purchase the franchise. There’s another group led by Toronto billionaires Jeffrey and Michael Kimel that also includes Canadian singer The Weeknd.

Reynolds and actor Rob McElhenney are the co-owners of Wrexham, a fifth-division club that clinched a promotion to the Football League last month, ending a 15-year absence. The team’s season was chronicled in a Hulu documentary series that has been a boon for the club’s popularity abroad.
